Publication: A Case for Joy
A Personal Investigation
Hearing my grandparents' stories and experiences has taught me so much about them and about myself. A Case for Joy is one expression of my paternal grandmother's story in the form of a transcribed interview and other collected materials. I framed the interview by asking my grandma to tell me about her life growing up and where she found joy.
I made the cover and bound the text block, and did all of the illustrations myself.

“Joy is something that’s there even if you’re not happy... I guess joy to me is that even if things don’t go the way is important to me, I don’t give up on the rest of my life, the rest of the joy in my life. ”
After interviewing my grandmother, I conducted a second interview with questions from the first interview.
The publication also includes photos and recipes my grandmother wrote herself.
